About Us

About The Parting Glass

The Parting Glass opened, finally, in July 2010, although it had a space in my mind for a good while before then. After I was made redundant in January 2010, we made the decision to open our own shop. We knew what we wanted to stock and had an idea of how we wanted the shop to look; it was just a question of finding a suitable home for us. Having lived all of our Irish lives in County Wicklow we knew where we wanted to open, finally in April 2010 we found just what we were looking. Come in and see what you think of the place. Slainte!

The Name

Our name comes from the traditional song, made famous by the Clancy brothers and Tommy Macken. With folk musicians in the family it seemed an appropriate name, in fact my father recorded it as an album track a few years ago!

The Wines

All from independent importers and producers both large and small, we have put together a range of wines to suit most palates. We have a range of almost 700 Wines, Ports, Champagnes, Sparkling wines & Sherries. over 75 of which are exclusively imported by us. Whilst we don’t carry the big brand names, you’ll still find plenty of quality and value on our shelves.

Meet the Team

Having spent between us nearly three decades in the wine trade and meeting whilst working in the trade (Majestic Wine have an awful lot to answer for), we, Dom & Catherine Brice, have taken the leap and set up our own wine shop. We both have a passion for most things vinous and I guess the shop is simply an extension of that passion.

Well that consists of me, Dom, and my wife Catherine, you’ll always find one of us behind the counter. Catherine and I started our wine careers with Majestic wine in the UK, Catherine then went and got a “proper job” whilst I stayed a professional alcoholic! With more than 20 years in the trade, including stints with Diageo, Coors, Majestic, O’Briens, Searsons and several independents, opening my own shop was always something of a wish. We’re also aided by the indefatigable John Dowling, whose wine based past is as extensive as mine with time spent in France, the US and with Oddbins and a few more here in Ireland. All of us are WSET qualified and more than happy to offer any assistance we can.

Additionally help is occasionally given by Joe & Burt, the gruesome twosome as they are also known – part welcoming committee, gardening assistants and pitifully useless security detail!
