Product Details
A sub zone of Chianti, Rufina is the furthest North East of the Chianti producing areas – about 12 miles east of Florence. Tends to produce more aromatic and fruitier wines with higher acidity and firmer tannins than much of the rest of the Chianti region; this is due to its proximity to the Apennine Mountains which provide cooler night time temperatures than elsewhere in the region. Frescobaldi are noted for the care they take over their vines and wines, the Nipozzano was noted in the Gambero and highly regarded by Robert Parker, Stephen Tanser and many of the plethora of wine critics. The wine has a full aroma of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and dark cherry and even a hint of dried flowers. The palate is powerful with sweet, evolved tannins, harmonious and elegant with a finish that is redolent of vanilla and cinnamon. Definitely a wine to be savoured and a cut above many Chianti Classico’s.
