Product Details
The historic amphora bottle is a characteristic feature of Verdicchio dei Castelli Jesi, it was designed in the early fifties by a Milanese architect; the idea being to emphasise the links of the wine with Etruscan history as it matches the shape of ancient wine containers. The bottle was nick-named “Lollo” after the famous actress Gina Lollobrigida, whose sinuous curves it was said to resemble. The Castelli dei Jesi wine-producing zone encompasses the hilly territory around the town of Jesi in the province of Ancona, situated in the Marche region of Central Italy. This area features fortified villages which were built here in medieval times, and which give rise to the Castelli part of the DOC name. The region has seen significant increases in popularity in recent years, mainly due to growers producing lower yields, less fruit production concentrates the flavours produced – Verdicchio can produce large crops of grapes but this dramatically reduced the quality of the fruit. On the nose there are intense, elegant, fruity aromas with scents of ripe fruit such as peach and lemon peel. The palate is well-structured, with a smooth freshness and the fruit follows from the palate with zingy lemon and even hints of almond, with a long citrusy finish.
