Product Details
As a region Rueda gained full recognition in 1980 when it gained its D.O. Status, white wines from Rueda can be produced from Verdejo, Viura and Sauvignon Blanc but must contain at least 50% Verdejo if they are to be labelled Rueda. Verdejo has grown in Spain for the best part of nine centuries but was mainly used to produce sherry like wines until the 1970’s. At this time the winemakers took to harvesting the grapes at night, the resulting cooler temperatures reduces the oxidisation the grapes undergo before fermentation and gives much fresher livelier fruit flavours. Sauvignon is often used in the blend to give a grassy and intense style not that far removed from the new world style. This Rueda is predominantly Verdejo from our friends at Bodegas Riojanas and benefits from a more subtle but aromatic palate than the more aggressive Sauvignon style can give. Full of grapefruit, soft peach and orange aromas this is a wine that will make the palate think it’s summer again, with bags of fresh fruit and a wonderful clean and crisp finish this is not a wine that will or a wine that wants to age; this is for sheer enjoyment now.
